VERMIN CONTROL
Rabbit & Mole Control - LANTRA Integrated Training and Assessment
The course is designed to help people plan and carry out vermin control. It is intended to give trainees a full working knowledge of both preventative and curative methods so that they can plan, implement and monitor a control programme appropriate to their situation.
Course objectives:
- Identify rabbits and moles and the typical symptoms of the damage caused
- Identify the degree and source of the infestation for rabbits and moles
- State the legislative obligations and responsibilities relevant to the control of rabbits and moles
- Describe the life styles, habits and habitats of rabbits and moles
- Plan, implement and monitor an effective control programme for rabbits and moles
- Select and carry out the most appropriate methods for rabbit and mole control, in line with current legal guidelines and recognised good practice

Introduction
- Why control rabbits and moles? What are the options?
- Pesticides - vermin control and the use of rodenticides and vertebrate pest control products
- Health and safety and other relevant legislation
- Practical session on rabbits
- Practical session on moles
- Storage, records and disposal and emergency procedures
- Conclusions
2. Rat and Mouse Control - LANTRA Integrated Training and Assessment
The aim of this course is to give members a full working knowledge of both preventative and curative methods of rat and mouse control so that they can plan, implement and monitor a control programme appropriate to their situation.
Course objectives:
- Identify rats and mice and the typical symptoms of the damage caused
- Identify the degree and source of the infestation
- Describe the life style and habits of rats and mice
- State the legislative obligations and responsibilities relevant to the control of rats and mice
- Plan, implement and monitor an effective programme for rats and mice
- Select and carry out the most appropriate methods of rat and mouse control, in line with current legal guidelines and recognised good practice

- Pesticides - rat and mouse control and the use of rodenticides vertebrate pest control products

- Practical - Practice baiting skills for rats and mice and planning continuing control needed for site
- Storage, records and disposal and emergency procedures
- Conclusions and review

3. Pest Control in Grain Stores - LANTRA certificate of attendance
The aim of this course is to enable trainees to understand the implications of the Food Safety Act and other legislation and guidance relating to the control of pests in grain stores so that they can plan implement and monitor a control programme appropriate to their needs.
Course objectives:-
- Identification of the appropriate methods of pest control to minimise the risk of infection
- Identify the main grain store pests
- Rodents
- Birds
- Insects
- Mice
- Evidence of “presence”
Course Duration: One day

Course content:
- Introduction
- Grain store hygiene – the practical and legal implications
- The control of grain store pests: rats, mice, birdes, insects, mites.
- Identification of species
- Reasons for control
- Methods of control
- Site visit to grain store to discuss practical implications
